January 28 Writing For The Big Screen with Phyllis Heltay Those hilarious lines coming out of an actor's mouth or that scary chase scene on an alien landscape - somebody had to write that! This intense one day workshop will give you the fundamentals of screenwriting; format, character development, dialogue and resources for developing your writing skills. Take your idea for a short film or feature length movie and turn it into a screenplay. Participants have the option of bringing in any work in progress for a post workshop analysis and notes. I'll supply the popcorn! February 4 Refining Your Life Stories with Wilma Rubens We are all in the tumbler of life, like rocks at the bottom of the river, being bumped around by desires, conflicts and challenges. Writing prompts, exercises and meditations will provide inspiration to record our inner whispers, our thoughts, feelings and insights. This process brings validation to our individual stories and memories. This allows us to see ourselves as the hero or heroine in our own wandering journeys. February 11 Bouncing off the Bible with Marilyn Letts Whether the Bible feels like home territory or as foreign as Mars, come play for a day. Gain a brief introduction to some of the different forms and content of the bestselling ancient near eastern literature. Then free fall your way to new land. No critique involved and only share what you'd like. March 17 Living Your Poetic Life with Kirk Ramdath From grant writing to developing a stronger individual voice, this course will cover a variety of ways to increase your level of commitment to and enjoyment of writing poetry. While not focused specifically on poetics, this course will describe an approach to poetry that will inform and develop your writing in a way unique to each individual. Participants will have a chance to submit poems to Wax Poetry Magazine - a publication edited by Kirk Ramdath.
