Our space at the Alexandra Centre is cleaned up, thanks to the help of many volunteers.
On January 4, 2017, we will be receiving the keys to our new facility at cSpace King Edward.
If anyone is interested, cSpace King Edward will be open to the public as of January 3, 2017, so if you wanted to pop in to check out what they’ve done with the building, you’re more than welcome to do so. The AWCS space is still undergoing renovations and are expected to be completed by mid-January.
We are very excited to get everything set up and can’t wait for you all to see our new facility.
We at AWCS hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas with family and friends and we can’t wait to see you in the New Year!

We are making progress with our move and renovations. This week we received our 30 day notice that we are able to move in to our lovely new facility as of January 1, 2017. We can’t even describe how excited we are about this.
A great team of volunteers will be helping with clean up and moving of our current facility in Inglewood in the next couple of weeks.
Renovations are to begin this Monday and are scheduled to be complete by January 11 at which time we will begin lugging in new furniture and equipment and making the space as awesome as we have been envisioning it for months.
Did you know we were featured on the cSpace blog?
In case you haven’t seen it yet… here is the awcs-proposed-floor-plan for your viewing pleasure.
Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday and look forward to seeing you in the new facility.

We visited cSpace yesterday for a little get together with other tenants and to see the public art proposals for the new space and have a tour of the facility as construction progresses. Had a conversation with Councillor Evan Woolley, Ward 8. It’s so wonderful to see how much our great city supports the arts.
Also met and personally thanked MLA Greg Clark for his and the Alberta Government’s support, financially and otherwise.
The building is coming along nicely. New floors. Amazing tall windows with more light than we’ll know what to do with and heating and cooling that we can control in our own unit. (many will understand what we mean by this) It’s on schedule to have the main parts of the building done by December 1 of this year. That’s all four floors. Construction on the new theatre space on the west side of the building will continue into summer 2017 but we are sure it will be well worth the wait.
Much of our new programming for 2017 is ready for registration.

After 35 years in the Inglewood community and the Alexandra Centre Society building, the Alexandra Writers Centre Society is moving.
As of November 1, 2016, the AWCS will be leasing from cSpace King Edward in Marda Loop located at 1720, 30th Ave SW. Renovations will begin at that time on the almost 1200 sq. ft space, located on the 4th floor with amazing south facing windows and a distant view of the mountains.
As of early April 2016 we have secured ALL funding for this project. Thank you to the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission for approving use of proceeds to match the Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) approved grant in the amount of $27,500 for a total renovation budget of $55,000.
Renovations are expected to take approximately 4-6 weeks. Business will continue at our current location until the end of the fall 2016 semester. Barring any unforeseen delays, we expect to be fully operational in the new facility by January 2017.
